The Magnificent (Florida) Seven

Seven Cornish Rex, four females (pictured) and three males, were found living in a breeder's backyard in 2001. "They were living in deplorable conditions. These cats have spent their lives in tiny cages in the back yards of their successive owners. The nighttime temperature has gotten as low as 26 degrees in southern Florida."

"The only protection these cats had from the cold was a tarp thrown over the cages and cardboard boxes containing towels in each cage." A beautiful black-and-white, Uma was adopted but she died two months after going to her forever home after a brief illness.

"Their diet consisted of dry food and water. They are dirty and lack muscle tone. They have some abrasions and body sores." These photos were taken after they had baths. This beautiful blue-and-white girl is now called Tillie and lives with a Cornish friend in Texas.

Tillie update! "Tillie is doing great! She was also an extremely shy little girl, and sleeps right by my face every night, has been since the second week I got her. She's learned a LOT over the past few years about how to be a cat from her rexly sister Sassy, like how to hunt daBird, play with marbles, and jump into small spaces. We moved to Texas not quite two years ago, and since that time she has NOT gotten a thick winter coat - so she does somewhat resemble a bad Sphynx with all her peach fuzz.

"When people come over, she's too shy to flat out come over to investigate, so she thinks she's being clever by running through the room at top speed - sometimes several dozen times - to catch glimpses of the people as she runs past. It's really funny to see, as it's the only time she's in a flat out run. She doesn't walk - she scampers from one place to another.

"She suns in the window (we have low e coating to block the sun), and just in the past six months or so, comes over to investigate whatever I am eating. She does NOT try to take food from my spoon or fork - yet. She has figured out how to get under the covers on an unmade bed, but the made bed under cover trick still escapes her.

"I did have two small tumors removed from her head about a year ago, but aside from that she's perfectly healthy, weighing in at about 5.5 pounds. She is a doll, and I love her so much! I sat down the other day and calculated, wow, I've had her five years, so she's almost 7-years-old, I can't believe it's happened that fast...." 3/3/06

"One of the females has a severe head tilt, which she developed several months ago, but the owner 'couldn't afford' to take her to the vet. Her head has a very bad twist. She is the sweetest one in the bunch." A beautiful calico, she is called Matilda by her rescuers and lives in Louisiana.

"She is a very frightened little calico girl with a large umbilical hernia." She is called Savannah by her adopted family in North Carolina.
